Happy New Year, Folks!

I want to thank you for sticking around and sharing my journey through food, fiction, and fandom.

As my gift to you, before we start a whole new 12 months of geeky noms, I’ve made up printable recipe cards for my most popular posts from 2016. There are two sizes available in PDF format, a reversible 5″ x 7″, and a single 8.5″ x 11″.

So why don’t we get started, the fifth most popular recipe of 2016 on The Gluttonous Geek was:

Back in September, I hosted a Pokemon-themed recipe link-up as part of the Fandom Foodies Blog Collective. Bryan of Lvl. 1 Chef came up with the brilliant hashtag #PokeNOM, and I just ran with it. This dish consists of seared duck breast, charred leeks, rice cakes, and plum wine sauce thickened with a roux made of duck fat and brown rice flour. A single recipe will give you duck fat for months and it’s also one of the few gluten-free dishes I have on this site.

Up next, my fourth most popular recipe!

Speaking Fandom Foodies, I think this was the post that started our themed month recipe link-ups with #RedwallAugust on Fiction-Food Cafe. I had re-read Redwall not too long before that and noted pretty much every food item mentioned (which is a lot). This one seemed the most iconic for the book: broiled rainbow trout with a thyme-sauvignon blanc cream sauce, topped with honey-roasted hazelnuts with chopped rosemary. It also scored Diana and I interviews with GOOD Magazine and International Geek Girl Penpals.

The third most popular recipe from 2016 was:

Now this one I have to admit that if I went by view counts alone, 3/5 of this list would be Dresden Files recipes. This is the top recipe of that group. You reading this, Jim? Your fans are also becoming my fans, and they are hungry. How can they not be with this deep dish pizza with a thyme-infused crust, stuffed and topped with button mushrooms?

Next up on our top five is:

I will admit, this is one the most fun photoshoots I’ve done on Cosplay in the Kitchen, especially because my guest made me cocktails while the pressure cooker did all the work. Easy, fun, and delicious, this is a venison stew made with pureed pumpkin, nuka cola, and vodka. Don’t worry folks, this won’t be the last Fallout inspired recipe I do on here.

And finally the top post from 2016 on The Gluttonous Geek:

I was very lucky that at the time I posted this, a friend of a friend who just happened to work for a little site named Lifehacker was on Facebook. My concept of a cheap but geeky Valentine’s Day meal was up in time for it to be featured and go viral overnight: ramen with blackened chicken, topped with a coffee creamer and cheddar bechamel sauce,. Thanks again for that, Eric. You’ve certainly helped boost my confidence!

So there it is, your favorites from this past year. But here we are now in 2017 and time to look forward to what goals I’m wanting to put together for you this year:

  • This year I want to stretch my scope to cook recipes inspired by fandom created by other sources than the mainstream media. Think recipes inspired by webcomics, podcasts, geeky vendors (tea shops, chocolatiers, etc.), bands/musicians in the fandom convention scene, etc.
  • I also want to get some start in video production. Admittedly with a full-time job and a band in addition to this blog, this will be a very slow process. I think I may start just adding live video tips on the Facebook and Instagram page, then inserting short video demos to accompany some of the recipes. Eventually, when I can get the setup and team, I want to have celebrity interviews and cook-alongs with people from the geek community.
  • I am actually also working on putting together a cookbook proposal for a certain series. You’ve probably already figured out which one. It is a slow process, I won’t lie. I want to put forward the best product and part of that is re-reading this 15 book series.
  • Lastly I’m going to work at networking some more at various conventions. If you would be interested in a geeky food related panel at your fandom convention, want me (and any other of my fandom foodie friends who happen to be in the area) as guests, and happen to be an affordable travel distance away from Atlanta, do contact me and let me know.

So these are the goals, other than you know, my general improvement on every aspect from cooking technique to food photography. Once again, thank you for supporting me, and I can’t wait to share even more with you this year!

    • You too, dude! Can’t wait to see the stuff you cook up this year. Also let me know if you find yourself in our neck of the woods for any convention or otherwise. I’d love to collaborate sometime and have you totally show me up with your mad skills. 🙂
