Welcome back, Geeky Gluttons, to another episode of Munchies & Minis!
For those just joining us, Munchies & Minis is a live Twitch cooking show where I make a tabletop or Dungeons & Dragons-inspired snack and then paint a miniature. To kick the first season off, I decided to start @RaineRysa‘s #52WeeksofDnD fanart challenge. Two weeks ago, we made some cucumber Pasta of Inflict Wounds for the challenge word “Injury.” This past week’s challenge word was “Loot.”
So when I thought of the word “loot,” it makes sense that any D&D adventurer wants the ability to carry as much as they can before leaving a dungeon. That’s why they regard their bags of holding as more precious than their contents. Bags of holding, for the uninitiated, are containers that are also portals into pockets of interdimensional space. Being that their inside exists elsewhere, they allow the adventurer to carry whatever arsenal of objects they desire regardless of weight.
I won’t lie. I went with the dad joke pun on “bags of holding” with this recipe. Hasselback potatoes are spuds sliced accordion-style, yet kept together by a thin layer of skin. This method allows you to roast the outside nice and crispy while cooking the inside evenly. It also lets you stuff them with all sorts of good stuff and infuse them with tons of flavor.
As far as what you’ll be stuffing these hassel-bags with, first you’ll need some rations. That’s why we’ll be using bacon and cheese. A druid or party healer would want a ton of fresh herbs on their person, so that goes in too. And finally, we’ll be reprising my recipe for honeyed cornflakes as our edible gold pieces.
