Welcome back, Geeky Gluttons, to another episode of Munchies & Minis!
For those just joining us, Munchies & Minis is a live Twitch cooking show where I make a tabletop RPG-inspired snack and then paint a miniature. To kick the first season off, I decided to start @RaineRysa‘s #52WeeksofDnD fanart challenge. Far too long ago, we made some pomegranate tarts for the challenge word “Charisma.” The next challenge word was “Monster of the Week.”
So what is “Monster of the Week”? This term describes horror stories where the characters fight a single monster per episodic “week.” Examples include the shows Supernatural, Angel, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. This episode, I felt I had no excuse but reference RPG podcast The Adventure Zone‘s Amnesty Arc.
For the uninitiated, The Adventure Zone is a ridiculously funny RPG podcast done by the McElroy family. The Amnesty Arc storyline uses the Fate: Monster of the Week system where their characters protect the portal between fictional Kepler, West Virginia, and the magical Sylvane from monstrous abominations. Today’s recipe happens to reference one of these abominations, Billy the Goat-man.
While all the other abominations seem to want nothing more than to sow chaos and kill people, Billy responds to not only reason but kindness. Given his spared life, a PlayStation, the appearance of Ryan Gosling, and the ability to speak English, he gains a soft spot for park ranger Duck Newton and pizza. In fact, “Duck” and “Pizza” are some of the only words he knows.
So with that, I decided to make some quick, duck meat and goat cheese flatbread pizzas. For your base, you will need some naan bread. This Indian flatbread is soft, delicious, and available at most grocery stores. To save yourself some time, find a roast duck half and shred the meat up. You can find them with the turkeys and cornish game hens.
As I’ve highlighted in my previous Amnesty-themed posts for Duck Newton’s French Onion Soup and Aubrey Little’s Flaming Fig Salad, maple trees are abundant in Kepler’s Monongahela forest. That’s why I chose to mix some maple syrup into our tomato sauce. Paired with some spicy red onions and creamy goat cheese crumbles, this dish is quick, delicious, and perfect for nights of playing Playstation with your park ranger friend.
