Welcome back, Geeky Gluttons, to another episode of Munchies & Minis!
For those just joining us, Munchies & Minis is my Dungeons & Dragons and tabletop RPG-inspired live cooking show. Once a week, I make a snack or meal to pair with a side of dice rolls. You can catch me on Twitch or Facebook Live (unless indicated otherwise on social media) Wednesday nights at 7 pm EST.
Last time I posted the video for parsnip and white chocolate biscotti inspired by Pathfinder RPG‘s Bellflower Network. This week’s video, we serve up some stuffed frittata rolls inspired by Dungeon & Dragons‘ Forgotten Realms campaign.
Munsrum’s Ready Ladle
This week’s recipe comes the smithing city of Kholtar in South Faerun. That’s right. I said smithing city. Perched on the edge of the Great Rift, this entire city carved of stone houses legions of ironsmiths second only in skill to the dwarves of the Rift. In a society where workers wear burn scars like a badge of honor, the average crafter has not the time for a sit-down meal. And smithing is incredibly hungry work.
That’s why quick-serve lunch counters such as Munsrum’s Ready Ladle are popular. On the way to or from work, the average Kholtan stops by half a dozen of these counters to sate their appetite. And all this is possible with the invention of hardrusk, a loaf of flatbread shaped and baked into edible bowls. Thimmer with gravy, claevur casserole, shaar stew? All ready to go within a crispy side of bread.
Today though, we whip up a favorite hardrusk-holding dish: Mantara. Mantara “[is] made by stirring eggs, leafy greens, and shavings or small cubes of various cheeses together in a pan and letting it cook until solid. The flat egg dish was then cut into wide strips, rolled, and stuffed into a hardrusk bun.”
Our version of Munsrum’s Mantara takes a few liberties by baking instead of frying this parsley, spinach, and cheese frittata. Then we bake it again with a filling of even more greens and cheeses. Served in a flour tortilla bowl, these frittata rolls are perfect for the smith on the go…or just the DM who doesn’t feel like doing the dishes for a party of six.
