Munchies & Minis | Fiendspice Curry

Fiendspice Curry inspired by Dungeons & Dragons. Recipe by The Gluttonous Geek.

Welcome back, Geeky Gluttons, to another episode of Munchies & Minis!

For those just joining us, Munchies & Minis is a live Twitch cooking show where I make a tabletop or Dungeons & Dragons-inspired snack and then paint a miniature. To kick the first season off, I decided to start @RaineRysa‘s #52WeeksofDnD fanart challenge. Far too long ago, we made some bone broth lentil stew for the challenge word “Healing.” The next challenge word was “Tiefling.”

The Tiefling race in Dungeons & Dragons are humanoids with an infernal heritage. Somewhere in their lineage, a human bonded in the biblical sense with a denizen from the Abyssal Planes. Demons, devils, fiends — the folks from the Nine Hells are hot stuff.

Dad jokes aside, I wanted to make a dish utilizing ingredients and culinary styles found in the lower planes, while also being just a little bit blasphemous. Once again, consulting Power Score’s Great List of Food and Drink, I found an entry for a thing called Fiendspice.

The entry states:

Known fiendspices include devilwort, goryenne, and mephosweat. These spices in normal conditions can be quite hazardous to mortals, wreaking havoc on their digestive processes and even causing damage in great enough quantities.

I cannot think of a better way to show off a collection of spices than in a curry. So I started with an Indian style of cooking curry by first marinating my proteins in some yogurt. Since the PowerScore list also mentions Roasted Wereboar Seasoned Liberally with Pepper and Paprika from D&D’s latest Descent into Avernus supplement, I incorporated pork tenderloin, black pepper, and smoked paprika. Pork is also considered taboo to many world religions–and even more so when combined with dairy.

I then cooked the whole lot in a Thai-style curry preparation by simmering it in coconut milk with red curry paste, sweet potatoes, and red onions.  The results are sinfully delicious, creamy, and with just the right amount of spice. A single batch feeds a full party of six, but it also reheats well if you wish to savor it all week. I highly recommend pairing it with a fresh pot of black rice for a sweet and nutty flavor boost to your meal.
