Welcome back, Geeky Gluttons, to another episode of Munchies & Minis!
For those just joining us, Munchies & Minis is my tabletop RPG-inspired live cooking show. Once a week, I make a snack or meal to pair with a side of dice rolls. You can catch me on Twitch (unless indicated otherwise on social media) Wednesday nights at 7 pm EST.
We made honey and chamomile-soaked pumpkin bread from Pathfinder‘s Realm of the Fellnight Queen in our last video. This week, we return to D&D‘s city of Beregost for cold potato soup from The Red Sheaf Inn!
Fast Service, Cold Soup
Fans of the show might recognize Beregost from my previous episode featuring Feldpost’s Inn (and its mushroom and onion tarts). Nestled between Candlekeep and Amn, the city is home to three inns and one kitchen-less tavern. While Feldpost’s is quiet with slow service and The Jovial Juggler is never in want of entertainment, merchants needing fast service, meeting space, or quiet nights choose The Red Sheaf.
According to Volo, “Fare at the Sheaf is of the warm or cold soups, cheese and grapes, bread and spreads, and whole roasts variety. The cold potato soup is delightful, and carries the homey taste of onion and celery, along with a more subtle and indefinable seasoning that I was unable to pin down.”
I’ve pinned Baldur’s Gate’s culinary style similar to provincial France in previous posts, while Amn is clearly Spanish. That’s why when I think of Beregost, I remember that it is the caravan stop right after leaving or before entering Amn. That’s why I made a rustic French potato soup and infused it with sherry vinegar, Spanish paprika, and nutmeg. And very much like The Red Sheaf’s famous fast service, this dish is ready to go in very little time. However, I would recommend prepping ahead to ensure that speed.
