Welcome back, Geeky Gluttons, to another episode of Munchies & Minis!
For those just joining us, Munchies & Minis is a live Twitch cooking show where I make a tabletop or Dungeons & Dragons-inspired snack and then paint a miniature. To kick the first season off, I decided to start @RaineRysa‘s #52WeeksofDnD fanart challenge. Two weeks ago we made some Smoked Salmon for the challenge word “High Society.” This week we came back to the word “Ratfolk.”
So I was gravitating between the obvious and the potentially disgusting for this dish. Then I figured “Why not both?” For a taste of the obvious, I went with the dairy product most associated with these rodent brethren. That’s right, cheese, and several types of them at that — parmesan, romano, mozzarella, even some bleu cheese since a rat does not fear funky flavors.
As for the potentially disgusting…ever heard of a Rat King? I don’t mean the crowned ballet-dancing kind known to despise Nutcrackers. I mean the term for when rats get their tails stuck together in a giant, squirmy ball of grossness. The jury is still out on whether the concept is genuine, or a result of some creative taxidermists. Just don’t google it before eating this dish if you want to have an appetite at all.
